As part of the ongoing restoration of historic seaplane components, the main floats—crucial for providing buoyancy to the aircraft—have now arrived in Bodø from the Navy Museum in Horten. Their safe arrival marks an important step forward for the project, as these floats are central to the plane's ability to operate on water. The journey included a stop at Gardermoen, where conservator Mike intervened to help expedite the transport. Fortunately, the floats arrived without any transport damage.
However, restoration remains a complex task. Some ribs have detached from the outer plywood skin, often due to the stresses of aging and previous repairs, making it necessary to redo sections to preserve both strength and authenticity. The restoration team must fabricate several new ribs, a meticulous process that involves carefully steaming and bending fresh wood to match the original specifications. Each component must be shaped, dried, and assembled with precision to ensure the structural integrity and historical accuracy of the floats—work that calls for both patience and expertise.
